That is an interesting fact about the fabric softener, I did not know that.
Maybe it is better to was without then or is there a "safe" softener

                                      Posted: Fri Nov 20, 2009 4:56 pm

Flip the console up and check that connection where the lid switch plugs in. I have seen many of these units stall like you described, and when I jiggled the connection the machine sprang into action. If the connection appears intact with no dark areas to indicate scorching at the connector, then you may well need a new timer. The fact that you can manipulate the timer knob to get the machine to finish is a sign it could be bad.

The only other spot where trouble may spring up is the motor itself. Since this is a 2-speed reversing motor, it can and does switch back and forth from a high speed in the wash cycle to a lower speed in the final 2 minutes. (Coincidentally, this is the time that bleach is injected into the tub if you have a dispenser for that on your model.) Back to the motor....you may have to shuck the cabinet off and undo the pump so you can see the motor and its connections. Under the paper cover on the motor switch is all your contact points. If they appear scorched or pitted, replace the drive motor.

Yep, fabric softener is a bad idea since they make it with pig fat. It will eventually leave residues in places you cannot get to, not to mention making your laundry waterproof so the soap cannot penetrate it.

Glad you found the problem on this Frigidaire-made washer.

It's up in the top area where the buttons are. The white thermal fuse is usually clipped to the backside of the console. You will recognize it by the picture above. I also have the topic pretty well covered in the front of the dishwasher forum. See this link:
Despite the fact tht the timer was replaced at some point, you still have a bad timer on your hands right now. Not sure where you bought the part, but it needs to be exchanged for one that works properly. The current part nuimber for this timer is 3951769 and it is shown below:
Sorry, I don't teach dryer repairs here, just help with the diagnostics and which parts you'll likely need. I do carry the older GE dryer manuals in book form and they are also available from any of my affiliates. You can afford another $19 to learn how to fix the dryer, right?
This is a standard Whirlpool made direct drive washer. There are 4 springs at the base of the machine to hold the tub in place. Perhaps one of them has broken. To inspect them requires that you remove the outer cabinet, an easy task performed with a Phillips screwdriver. (See Cabinet Removal)

Once the cabinet is off, you can see all the springs, especially the one in back which stabilizes the tub. Report back with your findings and we will work on a parts solution.
There is a tech sheet inside the lower panel which will help you pinpoint the problem, but the usual finding in cases like yours is a bad motor speed control, as mentioned in the link below:
It sounds like the clutch is worn out. This is a repair that you can do in less than 45 minutes and the instructions are already on this forum.
I believe you have to make sure the feet are stable on your floor. If it rocks back and forth, you'll need to lower the front feet to compensate for the irregular floor surface. I believe the user guide covers this as well along with diagrams.

Try another board. The machine control is supposed to release power to the machine until the start button is pressed for more than 1 second. There's always a possibility that the start button is stuck. This would be easy since it's just a normally-open switch, so there should be no continuity thru it unless pressed..

Remember to note whether the "lock" light comes on at the end of the wash cycle before it goes into spin. Also take note of whether the pump is pushing out the water forcefully into the drain. Any water left behind will be a problem when the pressure switch is not sensing an empty tub..

For it to shut down like that makes the unit think there is an overload or loose connection somewhere. The fact that you had previous Neutral issues leads me to think there may be a floating Neutral in this circuit which contributes to the problem. Usually this does not show up as a problem until a load is placed on the circuit, such as when you program a cooking cycle. Check the circuit all the way to and including its connection inside the breaker box. There may also be voltage drops going to the oven. This would be easy enough to monitor from the incoming black and read leads which make up the 240volts. The clock circuit runs off of L1 which is the black side (120 volts), so a technician would place his voltmeter leads at a black wires on the oven terminal block and a white Neutral wire, then have the oven turned on to Bake at 350. When the relay clicks on and heat is applied, watch carefully on the meter for a drop in the 120 volt leg you are monitoring.

The oven clock (control) will shut the cycle down if anything falls below 98 volts to protect the control.
